In April 2005, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports announced that MCYS will set aside $1 million annually to fund public education efforts on problem gambling as well as prevention programmes run by voluntary welfare organisations and community groups. The National Council on Problem Gambling has been given the responsibility to advise MCYS on the utilisation of these funds.
