Survey on Participation in Gambling Activities Among Singapore Residents, 2008

The Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) has released the findings of its second gambling participation survey among Singapore residents to the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG). The 2008 survey was completed in January 2008 while the first survey was completed in February 2005. The 2008 MCYS survey indicates no change in gambling participation and gambling addiction; and that more Singaporeans view some gambling activities as leisure and more start gambling at a younger age. The NCPG would be stepping up its public education and youth outreach efforts.

The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) commissioned its second survey on the Perceptions and Attitudes towards Gambling Issues in Singapore in April 2007. This survey is a follow-up on the baseline study undertaken in 2006 for the NCPG’s public education efforts.

The survey was designed to be a baseline study for the NCPG's public education efforts. NCPG Problem Gambling Research Grant

As part of the Council’s efforts to encourage local research on problem gambling issues,
we would like to extend a grant to all undergraduate (Honours/equivalent) and
postgraduate students who undertake research in problem gambling for their thesis.

ii) "Impact of Warning Messages, Propensity to Gamble and Outcome on Gambling among Singaporeans by the Department of Psychology, National University of Singapore




Survey on Gambling in Singapore

More than Half of Singapore Gambles; But Only 2 in 100 at Risk of Gambling Addiction.

A Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) survey conducted
from December 2004 to February 2005 found that 58% of Singapore residents aged
18 years and above have taken part in some form of gambling activity over a one
year period.
